FIRE AND EMERGENCY SAFETY SERVICES

WARNING
It is dangerous, and an illegal act to throw objects of any sort from balconies onto the street below. Management will view any such act very seriously. Police will be notified, you may be prosecuted and will be required to leave the property immediately.

For maximum safety and protection of guests, the Hyde Park Inn is fitted with the following systems:
1. A modern fire alarm system
2. Emergency lighting throughout
3. An emergency communication system

The purpose of these systems is to provide early detection of fire, and allow guests to leave the building with ample time and in complete safety.

GENERAL ADVICE IN THE EVENT OF AN EVACUATION

Fire Exits
Fire Exits are clearly indicated throughout the Hotel. Please see the back of your front door to familiarise yourself with your nearest exit. Fire Exits on guest floors are located either side of the lift. Fire Exits on the ground are located either side of the lift & via the main doors. Fire Exits in the car park are located by the lifts, or on level A, near car space A5, or level C near car space C5.

Fire and Evacuation Alarm
If you hear a ringing bell sound, this is the Hotel Fire Alarm. Please await further instructions from the evacuation system from reception. The evacuation alarm is a continual deep alarm through the Hotel speaker system. Please evacuate the Hotel via the fire exits following the PA instructions.

1) REMAIN CALM
2) TURN OFF ANY ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES in your room by removing your room card from the slot above light switches; however, do not unnecessarily delay your departure.
3) CLOSE, BUT DO NOT LOCK THE DOORS where possible, as this will help to contain fires.
4) WALK. DO NOT RUN. Running could result in an accident, endangering your own and other’s safety.
5) PAY ATTENTION. Concentrate on the matter at hand – evacuation of the building. This will help ensure yours and others safety.

GUESTS & VISITORS FALSE FIRE ALARMS CHARGE

NSW Fire Services currently charge over $1250.00 for any False Alarm Call Out caused by Lack of Attention, Carelessness and/or Deliberate Behaviour
l Do Not Leave Cooking Food Unattended
l Please Ensure Exhaust Fans are on and Balcony Doors/Windows open when cooking in Deluxe Rooms & Apartments

If the NSW Fire Service deems a callout to be a FALSE ALARM, the $1250.00 Fee will be charged directly to the guests responsible.

EVACUATION PROCEDURES

Moving to Stairs
On advice from the NSW Fire Service, Chief Warden or the Floor Wardens to evacuate, guests should proceed in an orderly manner to the Exit/Fire Stairwell closest to their room (DO NOT USE LIFTS) and report to the designated Emergency Meeting Point. Leave your personal effects in your room to avoid unnecessary delays in exiting the building. **To avoid ankle injury, high-heeled and platform-soled shoes should be removed before proceeding into any stairwell**

Proceeding Downstairs
Guests & Staff are expected to proceed, in an orderly manner, down the stairs two abreast, with arms interlocked firmly and utilising the hand rail to prevent stumbles and falls.
Please note: Guest must follow all instructions from Emergency Services Personnel and Hyde Park Inn Emergency Wardens.

Disabled/Impaired Guests If you feel that proceeding down the stairs may be difficult. Please advise Reception at check in and your name can be added to the Disability Register so we can advise Emergency Services when they arrive, and they will attend to you.
Emergency Meeting Point As you exit the Fire Escape onto Elizabeth St, head approximately 50-75 metres to your left (towards Bathurst St) and meet at the Arcade Thoroughfare/Alcove at 255 Elizabeth St. No Re-Entry to the Building Once outside the building, staff and guests are not to re-enter the building until instructed to do so by the Chief Warden or Fire Service Officers, who will liaise with attending Emergency Services.

YOU SHOULD NOTE: Each room is fitted with highly sensitive smoke and thermal detectors. In the event that activation of a detector takes place, the precise location is indicated on the fire panel at reception, where the pre-emergency procedure will commence. This will allow the appointed employee to handle the situation, and fire-fighters to proceed directly to the alarm point. Installation of a speaker system in your room is located above the guest door, with a small red light beneath the speaker. This indicates that the system is functioning correctly. The small red lamp below each speaker and other similar lamps in the corridors and stairways are part of the emergency lighting system, which will illuminate automatically in the unlikely event of an electrical power failure.

DO NOT PANIC
DO NOT RUN
DO NOT USE LIFT
DO NOT RE-ENTER THE BUILDING FOR ANY REASON
UNTIL THE CHIEF WARDEN SAYS IT IS SAFE TO DO SO
